Compassion

Naastenliefde is a monumental painting by Ad van den Boom, measuring 300 x 200 cm / 118 x 79 inches. The work contains approximately 150,000 individually painted dots and took around 900 hours to create. A large tree-like form rises above a vivid, layered landscape of color, rhythm and movement. The warm orange shape behind the tree suggests a sun or moon, while the deep blue background gives the painting a sense of evening, depth and stillness. The lower part of the work is built from flowing fields of color, dots, stripes and patterns. These elements create a world that feels alive and connected, as if every part of the landscape belongs to the same breathing whole. In this painting, the tree becomes more than a tree: it becomes a symbol of shelter, connection and humanity.
