02 · The story
This painting, done on-site depicts the wild, windy N.Atlantic coast of Cornwall, specifically the Penwith Peninsula, Zennor Cove is a haven for seals and other marine mammals but also sea birds, gulls and gannets. Fishing is exciting for the keen angler, and is close to the Village of Zennor with its cosy pubs. The colours of the ocean require a variety of blues and greens and sometimes tourquoise, reminiscnt of a pacific island shore. It was the smell of the sea, the tang, the sound of the waves and the cries of the gulls swirling on the thermals that drew me to this scene.
