In 2017, I began my art education in the ceramics studio of the academy in Leuven, Belgium. After graduating in June 2025, my home studio is gradually taking shape. Susurro was the title of my graduation exhibition. I also participated in the exhibitions Klei in Beweging in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands, and Kunstroute Leuven, Belgium. My work explores the expressive potential of form through simplicity, rhythm, and material sensitivity. Working in ceramics, I am drawn to soft, flowing lines and the interplay between concave and convex shapes – movements of rise and fall, tension and balance. Central to my practice is an ongoing dialogue between observation and transformation. Inspired by organic structures – particularly fungi – I translate natural forms into sculptural abstractions. Rather than direct representation, I seek to capture their underlying logic: growth, repetition, inversion, and variation. Molds allow me to revisit and reconfigure forms, creating families of works in which subtle shifts generate new relationships. Surface plays an equally important role. Through the use of terra sigillata, oxides, and textural interventions, I emphasize tactility and depth. Finishes range from matte to softly reflective, enhancing the gentle undulations of the forms and reinforcing their quiet presence. In some works, the contrasts between colors, between matte and glossy glazes emphasize the surfaces. My work often unfolds in series, where individual pieces relate to one another in space. Arrangements suggest movement, balance, or transformation – at times reminiscent of natural processes, at others of suspended or shifting moments. Together, they invite a slow, attentive way of looking, where small differences and nuances become meaningful. Ultimately, my practice is a search for a personal visual language – one that speaks through material, and the subtle articulation of form. Veerle Raskin
