Bryndís graduated in 1999 from the Iceland School of Fine Arts and Crafts Academy, in 2005 from the University of Iceland – School of Education with a teaching license and in 2013 with a master's degree in cultural management from the University of Bifröst. Along with teaching art, Bryndís has worked on visual art and put on several exhibitions, both solo and also exhibitions together with artist from Iceland and other countries. The main theme of Bryndís' work is shapes on the picture surface. The artworks investigate system of color and form, drawing on influences of Minimalism, hard-edge painting, mathematics, and architecture. Through compositions built from contrasting, vibrant colors, the works allude to the intangible dimension of time and space. The main emphasis is on working with abstract sculptural composition made from cut plywood and acryl color. Her practice explores the relationship between material, form, and space, focusing on the tension between organic and geometric structures. Through cutting and reconfiguration, she transforms industrial material into spatial works that exist between painting and sculpture. Abstract sculptural forms are cut into individual form and through this process, a rigid industrial material is transformed into an open spatial composition. The act of cutting is central in my practice. It is not only a method of production, but a way of thinking through material. What is removed becomes as important as what remains as negative space actively shapes the compositions and its spatial presence. The tension between organic, flowing shapes and sharper, geometric structures, these contrasting formal languages coexisting with the same work, creating a dynamic balance between control and instability, order and fragmentation. Ultimately, Bryndís is interested in how flat industrial material can be transformed into something that feels spatial, bodily, and alive – existing between painting, object and sculpture.
