KRISTOFFER ELIASSEN'S self staged photographs can often be considered film stills, but where the story is not written down in any script, and the film itself does not exist. - While the image points to the representation of a person who is not me, there is always a part of myself left in the staged image, since I have stood in front of the camera. Through seeing and interpreting other people, I also see myself, and my images become both an exploration of others' and my own identity. By standing both in front of and behind the camera, I become more involved in creating my images. - After I have the idea of the person in mind, I try to find a place and an environment for what is called a situation in a stage script – that is, a starting point for a dramatic action or event. Finally, I photograph. Sometimes this whole process can take two hours, while other times I can watch, think, note, and take test shots for a couple of months before the picture is finished.
