Artist’s statement: My works on canvas, paper and in sculpture contain experiences and capture the images that have taken shape within me. These personal impressions find form into images within me. Then I begin to paint or sculpt. I rarely reproduce what is immediately visible; rather, in my engagement with the respective media and subjects, I focus above all that which cannot be captured in language. As they take shape, my works – including the abstract ones – develop their own language. This language takes shape spontaneously and can vary considerably depending on the content or inspiration. Thus, my works can display a diversity that may only appear coherent at second glance: the essence of the work arises from the situation, and so does its language. Thematically, I am interested in extraordinary landscapes, technical or natural forms, and (human) constellations. Contradictions – whether political or within one’s own feelings – serve as sources of inspiration for me. Examples of Work: Catalogue after exhibition in Gerhard-Marcks-Haus Webseite Siegfried Bank Short CV: I never stopped painting since childhood. Being brought up on a farm, my first models were animals. Still, I decided for studying social sciences and economics - but, continued painting. I worked about 10 years in academics, also internationally, received a PhD, went into industries and finally (1995) created my own small enterprise - still taking art courses in U.K. and Germany and, setting up a studio. Finally a doctor, who organised exhibitions in his medical practice, discovered my pictures and invited me for my first showcase. This was about 20 years ago, since about 10 years I exhibit also in galleries and 2025 for the first time in a museum. I am member of the German Association of Visual Artists (BBK Bremen). Many of my works were inspired by experiences I had during extensive stays in countries in the southern hemisphere. The climate change there was already tangible, so were social frictions within the countries and frictions North-South. My worklife enabled me to get close insights and, in certain cases even influence the situations. Anyhow, I do not consider myself explicitely as an political artist. These times in Africa and Asia, being confronted and familiarised with various values and unforeseen problems, coined me and influenced my artwork.
