Sweet Surrender; Full Exposure (sold)

Sweet Surrender; Full Exposure is about those moments when fear or resistance slowly begins to soften. Not because everything is suddenly certain, but because something inside relaxes and makes room for trust. And within that space, what was previously hidden underneath fear can gradually become visible. For me, there is something fluid in that movement. A gentle shifting and swaying that allows you to move forward without needing to know or control exactly where you are going. Sometimes trust itself is enough. This painting is also about love and the vulnerability that comes with allowing yourself to be fully seen by another person. To let the masks fall away and remain open, even when that feels exposing. Perhaps that is the essence of this work: allowing yourself to be fully open, and trusting that you can stay there. The poem that followed the painting expresses that same movement from fear and control towards openness and surrender. An excerpt from the original Dutch poem: “Maskers afJezelf volledig zienJezelf volledig laten zien[…]Volledig geopend(Jezelf) Volledig ZijnOvergave". About the Water seriesPeople Are Water is the first work in the Water series, a series of five paintings about movement, relationship, surrender, emotion and the quiet presence beneath it all. The first four paintings were followed by original Dutch poems and brought together in the artist book Water – in beeld en woord.
