The Perfect Red Lipstick

Painting the human body is a humbling experience. It makes me throw out my ego and always start from a position of wanting to show a person´s story through the way they hold themselves their expressions, or in the little idiosyncrasies they have. I have found that if I start with the idea that I think I know what I´m doing, I´m often closed off to what´s really there. For this painting, I wanted to explore lighting and create a feeling of strength and confidence even though my model is strongly lit. Each skin tone has its own nuances and my model had some pink undertones that I chose to push through in certain places. I thought it complemented the strong red lip she had as well.
