Vesna in the Field

When I paint, I like to listen to audiobooks. For whatever reason, I love to have something going on in the background. Earlier this year, I listened to a book called The Bear and the Nightingale which was based on Slavic mythology and folklore. This inspired me to delve into Slavic mythology and find inspiration there for the minis. In this painting, I depicted the Vesna, who was an ancient Slavic goddess of spring, youth and life. She is often depicted as a young woman holding flowers. In this painting, I depicted her wearing traditional Russian attire surrounded by lush greens and speckled with flowers here and there.
